Yesterday at bedtime

Mumma desperately changes the topic.

Do these questions come so early in life? I was not prepared at all. I do not know how these thoughts came to Ansh's mind. But then, death is all around us, in fairy tales, on TV. We cannot keep a child shielded away for too long.

Gone wrong somewhere.....

Do you know of a 5 year old who does not want to go to the zoo? Instead he wants to go to the playzone at the Malls. I feel so distressed as a parent. Abhi tells me not to worry.......that he also wants to go to the Nicco Park. But it does not make me feel better.

Sleep Issues

We've never had sleep issues with Ansh. Just the usual ones which almost every child faces sometime or the other. However, since a month or so now, Ansh is extremely scared at night when we put off the lights. He sleeps with us & likes to be in the middle. But it's never been a major issue. But now, he just freaks out when it's bed time & his dad is not around. He tells me that there is no one sleeping on the other side of him & so he is scared. I have tried asking him what is he scared of, but he never answers me. So I have to hug him tight & it's with a lot of difficulty that he goes to sleep. The fact that his dad is usually pretty late in getting back from work is not helping matters at all. Before bedtime, he makes me call up his dad & begs him to come to sleep with him . Poor Abhi. He feels really guilty but cannot help it . We have not had a reverse situation where I am not there during bedtime. So I cannot pinpoint whether he wants both of us or just his dad.
In the beginning I thought that he is just trying to act up coz he does not want to sleep. But now I am sure something is really scaring him.
I am thinking of having some of his soft toys in bed from today even though he is not attached to them. We get enough light through the curtains, so we've never used the night light. But I'll try that out too. Just thought of sharing it here so that I may get some more inputs/suggestions. There has been no change in his bedtime routine or the room in which we sleep.

Physical Activity

So today is the second day of taking antibiotics & the UTI is much better! :)
Today I read about how important "physical activities" are for kids. Not that I did not know but today I resolve to get Ansh more into playgrounds on weekends. Even if Abhi does not want to accompany. Sometimes when I get off earlier on Saturday afternoons, I can do it. Call him over to office & take him to Victoria, Elliot Park etc. Ansh enjoyed so much in Victoria when Papa was here

Weekend-Tantrums

Ladies night was good!! I compered the show .Got no thank yous though.:(

Sunday went to Khidderpore market to buy CDs with Giri,Shruti & Amit. From there, went to Pizza Hut & then to Food bazar.

Evening, Navin Mahima & Gautam came for dinner. We had a good time.........basically Ansh kept everyone entertained. He throws such tantrums.
Today MD is going to US for a week. He'll leave in the evening. Sent Frank Munroz's data & replies to queries today

I just read up a few rules to prevent tantrums:

Don't try to argue or remonstrate with the child. While the tantrum lasts, she is beyond reason.

Don't scream back if you can possibly help it. Anger is very infectious and you may well find yourself becoming angrier with every yell she utters. Try not to join in. If you do, you are likely to prolong the outburst because just as the toddler was about to calm down, she will become aware of your angry voice and it will start her off again.

Don't let the child feel rewarded or punished for a tantrum. You want her to see that tantrums, which are horrible for her, change nothing, either for or against her. If she threw the tantrum because you would not let her go out into the garden, don't change your mind and let her out now. Equally, if you had been going to take her for a walk before she had the tantrum, you should take her all the same, as soon as she is calm again.

Don't let tantrums embarrass you into kid-glove handling. Many parents dread tantrums in public places but you must not let your toddler sense your concern. If you are reluctant to take her into the corner shop in case she throws a tantrum for sweets, or if you treat her with saccharin sweetness whenever visitors are present in case ordinary handling should provoke an outburst, she will soon realise what is going on. Once your toddler realises that her genuinely uncontrollable tantrums are having an effect on your behaviour towards her, she is bound to learn to use them and to work herself up into the semi-deliberate tantrums which are typical of inappropriately handled four-year-olds.
